Man Arrested For Raping Minor In Nasarawa state

A 24-year-old man, Samuel Matthew, has been arrested by the Nasarawa State Agency For Youths Empowerment Scheme, for allegedly defiling 12-year-old Sadiya Hassan.

General Manager of NAYES, Abdullahi Maina, made the disclosure while parading the suspect at the command headquarters on Monday in Lafia, the state capital.

He explained that the suspect was caught by some residents of the location where he allegedly had canal knowledge of the minor and brought him to the command.

He said, “When I interviewed the suspected rapists, he was trying to deny that he raped the young girl. She was bleeding so much when she was brought to our office so we quickly took her to the primary health care centre where she was examined and it was confirmed that she was actually raped.

“They had to stitch her and later they demanded that the suspect should be brought for examination to know if he is HIV-free or not. The test was conducted and he was HIV-free. I have called the state coordinator of Human rights and the Commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Development to know the next line of action.”

Maina assured that the victim would get justice as the NAYES command was going to collaborate with the police and other security agencies in the state on the matter.

“We will hand the matter over to other conventional security agencies for onward interrogation and prosecution. I assure you that this matter will not be swept under the carpet,” he said.
